Don’t Count on Tomorrow, Live Today!

Do not boast about tomorrow,
for you do not know what a day may bring.
(Proverbs 27:1)

“I will do this or that tomorrow…” This is a false assumption we all take for granted: the certainty of tomorrow. The truth is that the future, whether short or long, is something we have no control over. Acknowledge it: you cannot know if tomorrow will exist. We can make plans, organize schedules, and set up both simple and grand projects, but only God determines if they will happen.

This doesn’t mean we shouldn’t plan, have organized goals, or dream of future projects. However, it requires humility and faith to trust the Lord of time. "If God wills," He will fulfill everything according to His sovereign will.

Today is a gift from God for all of us. Therefore, make the most of it by doing everything as if it were for the Lord. Smile, love, work, rest, serve, forgive, seek forgiveness and reconciliation. Do everything you can do today! (Ecclesiastes 9:10). Since tomorrow doesn’t belong to us, we don’t know if we will be able to enjoy that time.

Embrace the gift of God: today!
Make the most of the gift of life by being and doing your best today.
Pray and entrust your projects and future dreams to the Lord.
Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today.
Make a list of things you would like to do, learn, or have before your life ends. Start today and take a step toward making those dreams a reality.
Read James chapter 4. Note the principles you learn from that scripture.
Include in your phrases: "If God wills, I will do this or that" (James 4:15).
Live in the present with Jesus and have hope for the future, always trusting that God will do what is best according to His perfect purpose.

For prayer:
Lord God, help me to trust in You and to surrender my entire life and projects into Your hands. Teach me to live today with love, dedication, and faithfulness, for this is the day You have made for me to live fully. Tomorrow belongs to You, Father. May I not be anxious or presumptuous about the future. Help me to rest and trust that You are the Lord of time, sovereign over all things. If You allow it, I will live tomorrow, and with You, I can realize my dreams. May it all be for Your glory and praise. In the name of Jesus, amen.
