Our True Identity

All of you are children of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendants, heirs according to the promise.
(Galatians 3:26–29)

We live in times when people cling to every personality trait, physical feature, preference, skin color, gender, and other characteristics to define their identity.

Identity has become one of the most important topics in popular culture—you’re expected to know how to define who you are. It’s a common mistake to be reduced to these categories, as if, for example, skin color were the greatest thing about a person.

The truth is that for the Jews in Jesus’ time, being Jewish was also their greatest marker of identity—and it mattered deeply. In light of this, Paul declares that what truly defines our identity is our faith in Christ Jesus as children of God, adopted through faith. You are a child of God before being a man or woman, white or black, Mexican, Colombian, or foreigner. Compared to Christ, none of these distinctions carry much weight.

To know who you are
Get to know Christ and His work so that you may believe in Him and have your identity rooted in Him.
Strive to know God—to know whose child you are by faith.
Trust in God, our good and loving Father.

Prayer:
Lord, I thank You for what You have done for me. Because of Your work, I am now counted as Your child. Through Jesus, You have adopted me, and You are my Father. Help me never forget who I am in You—who I am in Christ, a beloved child of a perfect Father. In Jesus’ name, amen.
