Find Refuge in Times of Trouble

“The Lord is good, a refuge in the day of distress; He cares for those who trust in Him.”
(Nahum 1:7)

The times we live in often lead us to fear and to feel unsure about the future. There is uncertainty in our professional lives and instability within families. These fears cause us to lose confidence, and before we realize it, we’ve allowed ourselves to become entangled in the world’s news—like a ship swept away by the current.

The Bible tells us to flee from every appearance of evil, for it contaminates us, and when we finally react, it has already influenced us. In those moments, we must say “enough” and step away from anything that weakens us. We must close our ears to news that does not edify us.

The best way to turn away from negativity is to fix our eyes on God. He is good, and our souls find calm in Him as we recover the confidence we need to straighten our path. When we read God’s Word, we take refuge in a safe and good place. And when we pray, His arms surround us. This relationship will give us confidence—the certainty that better days will come and that the Lord will be by our side.

Take Refuge in the Right Place

  • The Bible is a safe refuge for our souls and is effective in reviving and strengthening our faith.

  • Talk with God—pray. God wants to hear your voice and know what troubles your heart. When we are sincere with God, we move His heart.

  • Don’t think you can do everything on your own: seek out a church. If you already attend one, share your challenges with a trusted brother or sister in the faith. It is in the midst of battles that we find fellow believers who stand with us.

Prayer:
Lord, I feel insecure, but You are powerful and able to transform my life. Ease my heart and calm my soul. I trust in You! Wrap me in Your love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
