Salt in the salt shaker?

You are the salt of the earth. But if salt becomes tasteless, how will it regain its flavor? It is no longer good for anything but for people to throw out and trample underfoot.
(Matthew 5:13)

Jesus made several interesting comparisons in his teachings. In the Sermon on the Mount, he compared his followers to salt and light. If light does not illuminate the dark places, it has lost its purpose and its main characteristic. So it is with salt: if it does not salt, season and preserve, it is useless.

Salt has been of incalculable value in human history. In ancient times, in addition to flavoring food, salt was used to preserve food before refrigerators existed. It became the salary of Roman soldiers (hence the origin of the words solid - Roman currency - and salary). In addition, we know today that salt is essential for life. Without sodium our organism would be incapable of many very important functions. As Jesus said, so are God's people in this world.

You are the salt on this earth thirsty for Life and transformation. We live in a tasteless and corrupt world. Christ in you is the life and flavor that can give meaning to so many lost people. So get out of the salt shaker!

Give flavor to this world!

  • If salt doesn't get out of the salt shaker and into the pots, onto the plates and into the dough it won't make any difference. Take the love of God everywhere you go.
  • Share faith in Christ. He is the only way to restore this deteriorating world.
  • Pray and ask God to use you as savory salt on this earth.

To pray:
Lord God, help me to be salt and light in this world so decadent and far from you. Teach me to transmit the values and grace revealed in your Word to give meaning to the people I meet. Give me courage and wisdom to witness with my life, becoming more and more like Jesus Christ. I ask this for your glory, amen.
