When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”
- Mark 2:5
The story behind this verse is well known. Jesus was in a city, inside a house. People were so excited to see and hear Him that the place was completely packed—no one could get in or out. In that city, there was a paralyzed man with wonderful friends who decided to take him to the great miracle worker, so he could be healed.
This brave group couldn’t get through the main entrance because of the crowd. Their solution was creative—they made an opening in the roof and lowered their friend through it! When Jesus saw their great faith, He said, “Your sins are forgiven.”
Jesus’ response surprises those paying close attention to the text. The paralyzed man’s apparent need was physical healing, but when he stood before Jesus, he received forgiveness. This is because Jesus knows our needs better than we do, or even those around us. Maybe you’re asking the Lord for something, but God is giving you what you truly need.
Know Yourself
- Ask God to open your eyes so you can see what your true needs are.
- Continue in prayer and seeking the Lord Jesus, just as the paralyzed man did.
- Surround yourself with faithful friends who help you overcome difficulties.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I want to seek You with the same love and faith as the paralyzed man in the Bible story. Help me to see what my true needs are and give me what I really need. Lord, I trust in Your wisdom. So, I pray and ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
