“Keep me from deceitful ways; be gracious to me and teach me your law.
I have chosen the way of truth; I have set your laws before me.”
(Psalm 119:29-30)
Much of the world still doesn’t fully understand what conversion truly is. Many think it’s merely a change in habits or a psychological decision someone makes at a pivotal moment in life. It’s common to hear people talk about how or when one should stop to decide on their religion.
However, what happens in a true conversion is what the psalmist describes here. Notice that he doesn’t stray on his own but is redirected from deceitful ways. In other words, he doesn’t convert himself; he is led to conversion. What brings about this transformation is not a mere reflection or event—it is the grace of God.
Conversion is not a shift from a deceptive path to an empty one; rather, it’s the opposite. When we leave behind the errors of the world, we find ourselves on a path filled with truth and life—a path we must learn about and commit to. When God’s grace reaches us, we decide to follow His divine ordinances.
Make Your Decision
Have you left behind the deceitful ways of the world, or are you still being misled by them? Turn to the Lord!
Acknowledge that it is through God’s grace that you have been saved.
Like the psalmist, make the decision to follow God’s commandments and remain faithful to the Lord of the universe.
For Prayer:
Lord, I ask You to help me grow in spiritual maturity. Thank You for reaching me while I was on the path of destruction and deceit, and for placing me on the road of truth where Your Holy Son, Jesus Christ, dwells. Lord, open my eyes and teach me Your law so that I may keep it in my heart and live in joy. I pray this in the name of Jesus, amen.
