The Danger of Falling

“So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!”
(1 Corinthians 10:12)

Can you remember a time when you fell in a really awkward way? Maybe you were distracted, tripped on uneven ground, fell as a child—or even as an adult—while playing sports, in a funny situation, or during a serious accident. We've all experienced a fall at some point. Depending on what you were leaning on at the time, a fall can leave lasting consequences. In the Bible, we see this in the story of Mephibosheth, Saul’s grandson, who became crippled as a result of a fall (2 Samuel 4:4).

Spiritual falls happen too. Any believer who has experienced one knows how deeply it can leave scars—sometimes lasting a lifetime. In this verse, the apostle Paul warns us to be cautious, so that we do not fall. It is only by God’s mercy that we stand firm in the faith. But many stumbles happen because of our own instability or poor choices.

Stay rooted in Jesus so you won’t fall:

Thank God for keeping your faith strong and your heart secure in His presence.

Seek guidance in God’s Word about how to stand firm in Him.

Learn from past stumbles and commit to walking daily under the Father’s direction.

Have you fallen? Repent, pray, and ask God to lift you up and help you not fall again.

Develop a personal friendship with Jesus. The more you remain in Christ, the more He sustains you and protects you from the traps around you.

A Prayer:
Lord my God, thank You for sustaining my life in You every day. Help me to walk firmly in faith and remain faithful in Your presence. Forgive me for every time I’ve fallen. Teach me how to rise again and to stand secure in You. Today, I choose to please You and be careful not to fall. In Jesus’ name, amen.
