But be careful! Pay attention and do not forget the things your eyes have seen, nor let them slip from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and your grandchildren.
(Deuteronomy 4:9)
This is an important reminder and a word of warning for each of us: DON'T FORGET GOD! Generally, our memory tends to be selective: it discards the less important things, those we stop thinking about or abandon. If we ignore God daily, if we do not meditate on His Word, if we practically treat Him as insignificant, our memory will certainly start to erase Him.
The Bible frequently encourages us to think about God, to remind ourselves of Him:
in the battles of life (Nehemiah 4:14)
in the dark nights (Psalm 63:6)
in the hour of pain (Jonah 2:7)
in the days of our youth (Ecclesiastes 12:1)
when far from home (Zechariah 10:9)
Never let your heart stray from everything you have seen and learned alongside the Lord. This will be precious when a crisis arrives. In the most difficult moments, your memory will help you find hope and faith to keep going.
To pray:
Lord, help me to never forget Your goodness, mercy, and love. May I keep Your Words in my heart so that I do not sin against You. Help me remember every day that You are the Almighty God in whom my soul can trust. I pray in the name of Jesus, amen.
